말더듬증을 겪어본 내 입장에선.. 그 답답함이 이루 말할 수 없고 안보이는 곳, 보이는 곳에서 많이 눈물흘리곤했다.

 

스캣맨은 5세 때 자신을 평생 괴롭혀오던 말더듬증을 통해 자신만의 장르를 개척한다.

 

스캣맨도 했으니 너도 할 수 있어

이 가사가 내 심금을 울린다. 

 

말더듬증. 그리고 재즈음악가로서의 첫도전에 실패한 후 떠돌이 재즈피아니스트 생활. 가수동료를 48세에 잃고, 52세라는 늦은 나이의 결혼 후. 아내의 권유로 말더듬는 걸 음악창작에 이용하기 시작한다.

 

그리고 세계적 히트를 친 이 음악을 내고서 56세에 생을 마감한다. 

 

나도 되뇌어 본다. 너도 할 수 있어!
